Home Remodeling - to DIY or not?

Reasons homeowners often hire a general contractor for home renovations.

  1. A licensed and experienced general contractor has developed relationships with experienced tradespersons who’ve proven their skills. Doing something the right way to begin with avoids problems that may not show up for many months or years, such as hidden leaks in plumbing or not adhering to building codes in every area.

  2. He or she understands a proper workflow. They know how to coordinate subcontractors to save time and keep the project on schedule.

  3. A good general contractor will always admit to and correct their mistakes, communicating with the homeowner as changes are needed and ensuring timely completion.

  4. A licensed and experienced contractor has the necessary safety training to keep the homeowners and the workers safe.

How to find a great building contractor?

- Start by talking to friends and neighbors because these are people you know and trust. You may be able take a look at the newly finished work to see the quality first hand.

- Another way is to Google local businesses by using keywords matching the work you want done, such as kitchen or bathroom remodel, home addition, home renovation or general contractor, house remodeling contractor, remodeling contractors, residential building contractors. Look closely at a business’s website; they should have many pictures of work they have completed.

- Next, read Google reviews.

- It’s also a good idea to contact your states contractor licensing

board to see if there are any complaints.

- Lastly have the contractor provide a contract and a copy of the

permit.
